---ENG: All is ready for the Capri-Naples Vecchio Amaro del Capo Trophy, the world's most famous open water swimming race. Tomorrow, Saturday, September 6th, the twenty entrants (thirteen men and seven women) will compete in a historic 60th edition of the Gulf Marathon, which this year serves as the World Challenge of the Ultramarathon Swim Series. Eight nations are represented (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Italy, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, and Spain), but in the men's race, the Italians are the favorites going into the race. Starting with the reigning champion, Andrea Occhipinti of the Fiamme Oro, building on his successes last year and previously in 2021 and 2022. Trying to deny him a 4-0 victory is 21-year-old Neapolitan Giuseppe Ilario, who, after narrowly finishing second in 2024 and third in 2023, is aiming to bring the title back to Naples. Also worth keeping an eye on is Niccolò Ricciardi, who finished third last year and also third in the 2025 Lac Saint-Jean classic in Canada (32 km).
Among the Italians competing for the victory will be Argentine Matias Diaz, winner at Lac Saint-Jean, and Czech Matej Kozubek, who finished fourth last year in his debut at the Capri-Napoli. The experienced Balaudo (Argentina) and Evangelista (Brazil) will also have a say. In the women's category, the predictions ahead of the event are for Argentina's Mayte Puca, winner in 2023 and 2024. Puca will first have to contend with Australia's Madysin Armstrong, second on her debut in 2024. Eyes are also on two other Argentines who have reached the podium in the past: Erika Yensen and Romina Imwinkelried (the latter will be supported by the experienced compatriot and coach Damian Blaum, a two-time winner of the Gulf Marathon and holder of the all-time record for participation). Making her debut for Italy is Fiamme Oro athlete Veronica Santoni, Italian champion in the specialty and bronze medalist at the 2022 European Championships in Rome in the 25 km.
Ginevra Taddeucci, winner of four silver medals at the Singapore World Championships, will be present at the 10:00 a.m. start from Le Ondine Beach Club in Capri and at the finish in the waters off the Circolo Canottieri Napoli.
Today, Friday, September 5th, a technical meeting was held to define the organization and safety aspects of the athletes, followed by the traditional toast at the Gran Caffè Gambrinus. The athletes were welcomed by manager Massimiliano Rosati: "It's always a pleasure," he said, "to welcome the athletes of a race that has made swimming history like the Capri-Napoli. We are delighted that this year's partnership with the organizers, led by Luciano Cotena, has been renewed." After the greeting, each swimmer received a gift from the Gambrinus staff before the inevitable group photo.
Tomorrow, the highlights of the Capri-Napoli 2025 will be broadcast live on TeleCapri, a broadcaster that has once again agreed to support the organizers through an increasingly popular partnership. In addition to this service, fans and athletes will be able to follow the event through GPS tracking of individual athletes, a system that will provide real-time location information for each swimmer and detailed information such as their course, race pace, and distance to the finish.
