---ENG: He hasn't stopped training since the end of the Fukuoka World Cup. The goal is September 9, when he will face 36 km of swimming in the open sea on the occasion of the Capri-Naples Farmacosmo trophy. "It will be the most difficult sporting experience of my life" admits Federico Burdisso, who despite his very young age (he will turn 22 on 20 September) has two Olympic bronze medals to his credit in Tokyo in the 200m butterfly and the 4X100 medley relay, the gold at the 2022 World Cup always in the relay, four medals (one gold, one silver and two bronzes) at the European Championships. But he has never faced a race on the open sea. "After completing my university studies in the United States in January - he says - and having dedicated myself again body and soul to swimming, in particular with the aim of arriving at my best in Paris 2024, I developed the idea of tackling every year a 'mentally destructive' test. As a first experience, I had matured the intention of participating in a 25 km. Then one day, speaking with a teammate from the national team, the conversation slipped on the Capri-Naples, the most fascinating of the open sea crossings in the world. Thanks to Fabrizio Antonelli, we contacted the organizer Luciano Cotena, receiving his full availability".
Since the end of the world championship in Japan, Burdisso has been facing a rigid preparation schedule, which requires two daily training sessions (only one session on Sunday) of 6-10 km: "I have to acquire the necessary aerobic condition - specifies the swimmer from Pavia – For me more than the physical-swimming aspect, what really matters to complete the crossing is the mental aspect. In this type of race the 'head' is everything. I also spoke to Mario Sanzullo, who had already starred in the Capri-Naples last year and was then 'shortened' due to bad sea conditions. He gave me some advice that I think can be very useful ”.
Complicating Burdisso's feat are two aspects that he defines as "problems": "The first - he says laughing - is that, like the vast majority of athletes used to swimming pools, I'm afraid to swim in the open sea, mainly because I'm not used to not see the bottom. Add to this my aversion to jellyfish, so much so that I didn't want to know the conditions of the sea between Capri and Naples in this respect. They are two 'opponents' that I will try to beat on 9 September when I dive off the island ready to swim 36 km before seeing land".
