Winners: Mario Sanzullo (ITA) & Mayte Puca (ARG)

---ITA: Era da 53 anni che un napoletano non riusciva a vincere nel mare di casa sua: a rompere l’incantesimo alla 58esima edizione della Capri-Napoli trofeo Farmacosmo è stato Mario Sanzullo. Il nuotatore nato a Massa di Somma, 30 anni, tesserato con le Fiamme Oro e campione d’Europa nella 25 km dello scorso anno, ha trionfato davanti a centinaia di tifosi che hanno assiepato il lungomare di Napoli in via Nazario Sauro e gremito il Circolo Canottieri Napoli, dove si è conclusa la gara iniziata a Le Ondine Beach Club di Marina Grande.
Sanzullo ha battuto “al tocco”, dopo uno sprint testa a testa, l’altro italiano della Polizia, Alessio Occhipinti, che aveva già trionfato alla Maratona del Golfo nel 2021 e nel 2022. A completare la festa azzurra, il terzo posto del giovane esordiente Giuseppe Ilario, altro atleta partenopeo, che solo nel finale si è fatto leggermente staccare dai primi due.
Una gara di testa per i tre italiani, che facevano parte prima di un gruppo di otto e poi di sei atleti (c’erano anche l’italiano Ghettini, il brasiliano Evangelista e l’argentino Diaz). Nei chilometri finale Sanzullo, Occhipinti e Ilario hanno staccato il resto della compagnia, arrivando nel percorso obbligato a ridosso del Molosiglio praticamente appaiati. Lo sprint ha dato ragione a Sanzullo: “È fantastico – afferma il fresco vincitore della Capri-Napoli – ho vinto a casa mia e ho sentito un’esultanza e un calore che non dimenticherò. Il momento deciso? Ovviamente lo sprint, dove penso di avere avuto qualcosa in più. Dubbi al momento dell’arrivo? Sinceramente avevo capito di avere toccato prima di Occhipinti, poi ho sentito la giuria gridare il mio numero e ho capito di avere vinto”.
Tra le imprese di giornata anche quella di Federico Burdisso, campione in vasca (vanta due medaglie di bronzo alle Olimpiadi di Tokyo e un oro mondiale in staffetta, ma in vasca), che alla prima prova in mare aperto della sua vita è rimasto per quattro ore con il gruppo di testa e ha chiuso alla fine al nono posto.
Tra le donne prima l’argentina Mayte Puca (tempo 7.15.25). Soddisfatto l’organizzatore della società Eventualmente Eventi & Comunicazione, Luciano Cotena: “Una edizione davvero bella, che ha regalato tante emozioni, grazie a protagonisti capaci di esaltare la gara più importante al mondo per il nuoto di fondo. La città, con le tante presenze registrate all’arrivo, ha dimostrato che la Capri-Napoli è considerato un patrimonio assoluto”. Contento anche il patron del Circolo Canottieri Napoli, Giancarlo Bracale: “La Capri-Napoli fa parte della storia sportiva della città e per il circolo è un grande onore ospitare l’arrivo della manifestazione. Quest’anno le condizioni meteo sono state favorevoli e abbiamo assistito ad una grande giornata di sport. Complimenti a Mario Sanzullo, un nostro atleta, che in acque libere è irresistibile. Complimenti anche a Giuseppe Ilario, arrivato terzo. È enorme la mia gioia, insieme a tutto il consiglio e ai soci per questa vittoria. Il nostro circolo si conferma fucina di talenti”.

The sprint proved Sanzullo right: “It's fantastic – says the fresh winner of the Capri-Napoli – I won at my home and I felt an exultation and a warmth that I won't forget. The decided moment? Obviously the sprint, where I think I had something more. Doubts upon arrival? Honestly, I understood that I had touched before Occhipinti, then I heard the jury shout my number and I realized I had won."
Among the feats of the day also that of Federico Burdisso, champion in the pool (he boasts two bronze medals at the Tokyo Olympics and a world gold in the relay, but in the pool), who in the first open sea test of his life remained for four hours with the leading group and ultimately finished in ninth place.
Among the women, first the Argentinean Mayte Puca (time 7.15.25).
